Micro Learning Activity: Dialogic Teaching Powered by Questioning

Objective: Improve student engagement and understanding through structured questioning and dialogic teaching techniques.

  1. Warm-Up:
    • Ask a broad question (e.g., "Which foods are good for us?")
    • Encourage Think-Pair-Share, giving students time to reflect, discuss, and share ideas.
  2. Scaffold Dialogue:
    • Use scaffolds to guide responses, such as:
      • "On one hand... but on the other hand..."
      • "A benefit is... a drawback is..."
    • Prompt students to use these structures when sharing their answers.
  3. Questioning Framework:
    • Build on student responses by asking clarifying or deepening questions:
      • "Can you elaborate on that?"
      • "How does this compare to...?"
  4. Reflection:
    • End by summarising key insights from the dialogue. Have students identify what helped improve their understanding.

Key Outcome: Students practice organising thoughts, using academic language, and engaging in critical dialogue.
