Micro Learning Activity: Dialogic Teaching Powered by Questioning
Objective: Improve student engagement and understanding through structured questioning and dialogic teaching techniques.
- Warm-Up:
- Ask a broad question (e.g., "Which foods are good for us?")
- Encourage Think-Pair-Share, giving students time to reflect, discuss, and share ideas.
- Scaffold Dialogue:
- Use scaffolds to guide responses, such as:
- "On one hand... but on the other hand..."
- "A benefit is... a drawback is..."
- Prompt students to use these structures when sharing their answers.
- Questioning Framework:
- Build on student responses by asking clarifying or deepening questions:
- "Can you elaborate on that?"
- "How does this compare to...?"
- Reflection:
- End by summarising key insights from the dialogue. Have students identify what helped improve their understanding.
Key Outcome: Students practice organising thoughts, using academic language, and engaging in critical dialogue.
